Legal Defense Fund
NMFLB, On The Front Lines:
The New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau Legal Defense Fund is the front line in the battle to protect your property, your rights and your way of life.
This Battle is being fought in states and federal courts. The Legal Defense Fund is our best weapons to stop the attempt to dictate public policy with endless lawsuits. The Legal Defense Fund has been used many times in defense of water and property rights and it needs to be replenished in order to continue these efforts on many fronts. The Legal Defense Fund is at work in the following areas:
-
The New Mexico Farm Bureau intervened in a federal court case on behalf of the Jarratt Dairy in Los Lunas. The intervention helped make sure the Jarratt's best interests were served in the Village of Los Lunas' attempt to condemn the dairy land and turn it into a sewage treatment plant.
-
The New Mexico Farm Bureau is the only ag organization fighting farm labor cases and has been successful in many.
-
Rio Grande Silvery Minnow - Attempts are being made to shut down irrigation in central New Mexico. Who and what is next? The New Mexico Farm Bureau intervened in a U.S. District Court Case and helped overturn a critical habitat designation for a large part of the Rio Grande, which blocked the ability of federal agencies to take water that lawfully belongs to farmers, ranchers and municipalities and give it to the Silvery Minnow.
-
Southwest Willow Flycatcher - The government is being sued using the Endangered Species Act as a club with serious impacts on farming and ranching.
-
New Mexico Farm Bureau contributed to the successful Yellowstone Wolf case where the government violated the law by bringing wolves in to Yellowstone Park. This was a major precedent setting case and the judge ruled in Farm Bureau's favor.
-
We are in litigation right now over the status of the Mexican Grey Wolf re-introduction program, a major government program costing millions.
-
The New Mexico Farm Bureau donated $10,000 to the Public lands council for legal fees on the U.S. Forest Service fencing case.
-
The Legal Defense Fund contributed to private property cases across the state including a precedent setting case in Catron County.
-
One environmental group collected $5 million in taxpayer money after government agencies conceded and settled out of court. We must stop this with legal intervention.
-
The Legal Defense Fund contributed to the Mountain States Legal Foundation which fights many legal battles for agriculture and is the leader in litigation aimed at protecting private property and water rights.
-
We provide a reward fund for the apprehension and conviction of people who shoot livestock.
-
Farm Bureau is involved in the Rangeland Reform Case which may go to the Supreme Court. Your contribution, combined with others across the West, can make a difference in this case.
-
The Legal Defense Fund is active in railroad easements, takings actions, wetlands litigation and land-use cases.
Let's Protect our Constitutional Rights!
Your Contribution to the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau's Legal Defense Fund puts you on the front line, fighting for our rights, and standing up for what is right. The New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau and its county organizations have spent more than $94,000 protecting your rights in court in recent years.
